Today the Carver County Sheriff’s office held a press conference to update the media on their investigation into the death of music icon Prince.

Sheriff Jim Olson addressed the media giving a rundown of the events of April 21st, most of which had been previously reported.
The office received a medical call at 9:43am and responded with fire, sheriff and ambulance, standard operating procedure according to the Sheriff. An unresponsive male, identified as Prince, was discovered in an elevator. CPR was started, but was unsuccessful. Prince was pronounced dead at 10:07am.
The Sheriff acknowledged that the scene was processed, which he also described as normal protocol. Because the investigation is ongoing he would not comment on if anything was taken from the estate.
Olson did say that there was no reason to believe this was a suicide, and noted no signs of obvious trauma.
He indicated the results of autopsy may take several weeks.
A medical officer also confirmed that Prince’s body has been released to his family.
Many additional questions were asked, but given that the investigation is ongoing the Sheriff was unable to answer many of them.
Fans will continue to be allowed to gather outside the estate to pay their respects through the weekend, a situation which will be re-addressed on Monday.
Prince has sold over 100 million records worldwide, won seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. His long string of hits includes “1999,” “Little Red Corvette,” “When Doves Cry,” “Let’s Go Crazy” “Purple Rain” and “Kiss.”
Artists across genres and music fans from around the world have paid tribute to the artist since the news of his passing broke.
